This article compares basic Judeo-Christian Biblical principles that reveal twelve basic building blocks for everlasting love:
- Finances
- Combining Your Callings
- Sex
- Parenting
- Communication
- Conflict
- Rhythms
- Faith
- Boundaries
- Trust
- Addiction
- Theology of Marriage
If you are serious about building a lasting love with your partner, then we encourage you to take these insights to heart. So, let's begin.
The First Block: Finances
The fact is that many couples do not like to talk about finances. Perhaps out of embarrassment, out of a reluctance to face the truth, or simply out of dissatisfaction with talking about money, too many couples let the topic languish until they get into trouble.
But we must understand that financial health is not only a topic for conversation but also something that needs to be planned. Your finances are a resource that you can manage. You can spend your money however you want, as long as you do it with a clear conscience, that you are both on the same wavelength, and that you are doing it on purpose.
“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it— 29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’? Luke 14:28-30 NKJV
The Second Block: Combining Your Callings
Each person in this world has a God-breathed calling in life. When you're by yourself, it's much easier to imagine how God will enact that calling in your world. However, when you get married the challenge becomes how to figure out effective ways to combine both your callings into a cohesive whole.
Often couples we're drawn together by similar callings – only to discover those similarities are not as similar as they first thought. The trick is to take what you each have and develop a strategy to refine and combine your callings.
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24 NKJV
